They're wooden, slightly tapered and have the Columbus logo embossed. I assume they're very early knobs, 1937 era... but I've never seen them before. Was there a specific model that had them? There was 4 of them together, but I can't say they were all from the same radio. Anyone know? Cheers Steve

Hi Steve I have a Columbus set with these knobs. It is a model 62 which is a 6 valve dual wave set that uses Osram valves. It is also unusual in that it uses a “recycled” cabinet from an earlier model, the chassis is mounted on wooden spacers inside the cabinet to get the knobs and dial at the right height. It is not a “Frankenradio” made at a later date. This is the only RCNZ set I have ever seen these knobs on.

Interesting, thanks for that info and that looks like a nicely restored set... Do you know what model the cabinet was originally used on? I have a funny feeling I have one of those in storage, and now you mention the model number I actually have photos of one in my archives for the site! Its a model I hadn't got around to cataloging yet. I'll have to pull mine (if I do have one) from storage and take a look. Interesting that 2 of your knobs have scooped out sides (as do both the ones I have photos of), all 4 of the knobs I was given are round.

Not sure which model the cabinet was used on originally. Probably something similar to a model 36 I would think. The cabinet on this radio had its original finish, I cleaned it up with Swarfega followed by wax polish. When I acquired the set it had been converted to AC/DC operation and had a very bad output transformer replacement. I fitted a RCNZ power transformer and a good replacement RCNZ output transformer during restoration.

Excellent job, and thanks for identifying the knobs... I'll report back on mine if I do have one.
Do you mind if I use your photos on vintageradio.co.nz?
Cheers

So I've been doing a little research. One photo of the model 62 I have uses a different cabinet. This one: So far I've found the model 26, 27 and 32 use the same cabinet, or very similar... but all of those were later models. Here is the 32: Interesting, but not relevant to the original question... so I kept looking and found this, the 1938 model 35 which came out in at least two main variants and a wide range of cabinets - including this one: Problem solved, I can sleep now
