Hi All
Just thought I would share final result of recent project doing up an Ultimate FA Radio of my Granddads. It used to be in a family crib we used to own, and I've got memories of when I was about 7 or 8 playing with it for hours. It was probably in bad condition back then, and then neglected for 15 odd years before I was passed it recently.
I am a total newby to radios, and was initially only planning to do the cabinet, but it kind of grew and I ended up replacing all the old wax capacitors and half the valves as well. John Hodgson (sorry I think I have the spelling wrong there) then helped out with realignment and found a dodgy join in one of the coils too. Thanks also to Geoff Edwards for testing valves and sourcing replacements. Really appreciated all the help and input from people on here as well. It's great there is a good and friendly community of people doing this in NZ. I don't have that many photos from before I started, but will post what I do have below for your viewing pleasure.
John

Stunning job, well done An awesome radio that is well worth saving under normal circumstances, but even better that it has a family story attached. Looks like its tuned into Magic too

Great job, John. I have one of these, too, and had a lot of fun getting it back into shape. Very nice radio. Cheers Lawrence--

Beautiful. You’ve got the virus now. The only cure is to keep reviving these beauties. 👍
