Was just having this conversation with James about this Frankenradio and thought others might be interested... I saw this on trademe today and it made me smile (and cringe, and think, and then smile again): Stella model 38 (spiral dial - I wonder what happened to that rare chassis?) cabinet www.vintageradio.co.nz/model/stella/38Columbus model 35 (early version) dial www.vintageradio.co.nz/model/columbus/35Akrad 727 chassiswww.vintageradio.co.nz/model/pacific__post-ww2/727modified with different tuning gang moved to the centreline of the chassis and all controls must have been modified / moved along with an on-off switch (presumably) added to up the control count from 4 to 5... Rola 69H PM speakerSomeone actually spent a lot of time and energy on this... it would not be an insignificant amount of engineering effort to do it, even just to get the 5 controls in the right place. Its impressive and yet also makes me wonder why? MAybe a pile of parts and a rainy day got together and made a radiobaby? Its still a good looking set - I wonder how well the dial tracks?

Strange, as you mention, someone had a pile of parts and a spare cabinet and lots of spare time? unfortunatley I dont think it very desirable
