Hi folks, I'm firing up my interest in valve radios again, after having left 3 beautiful working models behind (as junk up in the attic) when I moved to Aussie some decades ago.
I've been back in NZ awhile now and recently grabbed some old radios and parts from a junk pile clear-out.
I have a nice Bell Colt 5B4 1954 and a Philips Fleetwood (I'm told it's the last of the valve models). Both of those radios are in nice condition and work ok.
I also have a Regency 5W3 1953 complete chassis, which powers up and makes some noises so might be repairable one day, plus a small Philips (case good but chassis incomplete), exact model unknown, but smaller and more basic than the 1958 Riviera, going by photos on the NZVRS website.
I do intend to attend at the occasional meetings of the Christchurch Vintage Radio Society meetings. As a recently newly licenced Amateur Radio Operator, I know where the VRS meet, at least.
Looking forward to other folks trying to preserve this remarkable heritage of old electronics (especially the NZ manufactured models).

Welcome back to the hobby The 5W3 should be easily repairable - most Akrad chassis' seem to be fairly reliable so new caps would probably be all it needs. If you post a photo of the Philips set someone will most likely be able to identify it - I still have a lot of Philips sets to add to vintageradio.co.nz but a browse through the Philips section I've done so far might reveal something. I believe our next Christchurch meeting will be Thursday 7th November at 7.30pm but someone else (John, are you there?) will be able to confirm or correct that. Welcome aboard Steve
