My cabinet is definitely not walnut. It is much redder in colour and the veneer looks a though it is cut across the grain. It would re-polish beautifully I am sure.
After a full alignment it performs nicely and the magic eye works well.

Thanks - good to see! Very similar design of cabinet, but some subtle differences at the tops of the side pillars, and front bottom.
I wonder over what period the 7L was sold in New Zealand?
The chassis here is working pretty well now, and this evening I was listening to the cricket commentary on it.

I don't know about the cabinets - someone here probably does though. All the ones I've seen look mostly the same, but the Gulbransen name was not used in the US at the time these were released I don't think - it was a NZ brand by that time as I understand it (but I could be wrong). I've only used Radio Daze for gill cloth before, they are pretty good although I wish they'd ship in a roll rather than folding. Cheers, Steve Ordered on 11th March, the whiskey rayon cloth arrived today, 4th May. I guess there may have been a few issues with international mail... It was in a tube and looks pretty good, although now I quite like the 7L with the temporary cloth I put in before! Will think on't. Thanks again for the advice, Steve. Cheers, Lawrence --

Its good to know it was rolled and not folded, that was my biggest gripe with the couple of orders I've made in the past... and I'd go with the whiskey rayon rather than what you have in there now just because it looks period correct - but thats just me, t'is your radio and so it should look right for you, nobody else
