I built this 2 valve radio back in the late 50s. Still a teenager & at school! Radio TV & Hobbies Aug. 1958 It may have been a modified version because I remember receiving The ABC on 4.? Mhz. Dismantled years ago. Last month I built an other version. Used a 6U7G & a equivalent to a EL33. Put the filaments in series with a WW resistor in parallel with the 6U7 filament so I could run it on a 12 Volt supply. The coil former I had was slightly smaller dia. & the wire thicker than specified. Added more turns but won't tune to 2YA . No problem in Auckland. Too much volume with Hi Z phones. Needs volume control. Connected 5" speaker with Xformer & OK in a quiet room. Have yet to try different spkr. & impedance tapped xformer.
