This is a great resource and did a lot to help me understand some of the subtleties of Akrad, Wooler and Pye when I was first researching them

Great read. Working with Pye Telecomunications as an apprentice at Mt Eden in the late 1960’s with Brian McCabe (who came from the Transvaal in Africa) was a great experience. I was one of the last apprentices that was taught valve technology before everything went solid state. We mainly set up radio telephones for different frequencies for the Police Dept, Taxi’s etc. Remember working on the old Pye 2002 and 2007 radio telephones (all valve) before the Pye Cambridge and later the Pye Galaxy. Did a stint at the Glen Innes Systems Division assembling the RF boards for the Galaxy using 3N140 and 41 MOSFETS in the front end, these were supplied with a shorting strap around the legs, but the assembly line girls removed them all before inserting them into the PC board and consequently destroying them (they were insulated gate with no diode protection) The article brings back lots of memories, including a few trips to Waihi to further my education.

I was in Waihi last weekend, the AKRAD branding has been put back on their factory building.

Wow, they've done it up - that's a vast improvement over how it looked just a few years ago when Nicki and I visited...
