Thanks to Peter we are back on track with this - turned out (as I understood) to be an issue relating to an extension speaker wiring as well as a short between the humbucker coil and the speaker coil itself. Really appreciate your time and expertise on that fix Peter and good to meet up.
Before starting the re-assembly I have been working on the radio tuning "face" - I'm sure you guys are already across this or have your own methods but was pleased with the result below... The paint was missing on most of the numerals and letters (incl. Shortwave and Broadcast) and wiped away at the slightest touch, (luckily the main logo at the top and LHS were intact)
I started trying to manually paint in the letters and numbers but was not a great look, I found eventually (as there is a v.slight etching where the paint needed to be) that painting over with enamel and carefully slicing off the excess with a blade allowed the paint to stay in the locations needed and some of the finer station ID's (which I would never be able to manually fill) came out pretty good I thought.
Needs a bit more tidying up and a careful re-install.
I have stopped here - I feel trying to fill the lines and arrows may add more issues and feel some missing paint is in keeping with the age of the radio.
Anyone have a tip for finding a suitable the tuning string ? (the string that goes around the tuning dial and across the top - trying to find natural fibre with a bit of elasticity to grip under tension - tried fishing line but slips on the smooth locator channel? will try a different multi threaded nylon fishing line but expect the same - any known solutions out there? Thanks, Mark
