Hello to the Group firstly!
I am Lance originally from Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
Currently residing in Hornby, Christchurch.
I have had an interest in Valve Radio since listening to a Rogers Cathedral radio in my Dads antique shop in Greymouth in 1988 or just before (The shop closed in the flood of that year).
On Saturday I was given a nice looking compact radio, something I might describe as an upright mantle radio, of which the owner wants to get going once again.
It has unfortunately been painted over in red paint, but carries the name VICTOR on the front.
A photo will help identify it better.
Many thanks for reading this post! Very best regards, Lance Neame.

Hopefully you can see some photos of the radio? I have as yet to remove it from the case to study the circuit or test it out. Thanks for viewing!

Hi Lance Its cute but rather odd . The keyhole dial suggests 1933 or earlier, but the valves are octals which only came in several years later. I can see only 4 valves, including a rectifier. There are no IF cans visible so it appears to be a TRF set. Perhaps it is an older TRF set which was upgraded with octal valves. First step is to draw up the circuit.

Also the EM speaker is also of a later vintage (late 30s or 40s)

To me, it looks like a kitset or home made radio.

Hello to the group!
Yes most definitely a TRF type set.
Valve lineup...
6SK7 (RF with variable gain) 6SJ7 (detector) 6V6 (audio) 5Y3 (power supply rectifier)
The valves are what is found in the set. And the description beside is my current best guess - without fully tracing the circuit.

If it has been re-valved, there will be evidence of grid wires. - probably on the tuning condenser which will have solder on the tags but no wires. Also the style of the valve bases and how they are fixed into the chassis might give it away.

Perhaps the original valve line-up was something like 35(51 or 35/51), 24A, 47 & 80?
