In my opinion, warm soapy water to clean grime off, dry off, then a little "Brasso" for really dull bakelite, but you have to be careful not to rub off the top coating, take it easy. I've then used "paste car wax" to polish to a shine. I need to occasionally re wax it to keep the shine up.

Thanks for that I have another case I can try before I go with the good one. I saw online someone said use a paste made from flour, salt and vinega, rub it on leave for an hour and wash off then apply some wax to polish

Instead of Brasso you can use Chemico, that pink cleaning paste which is slightly abrasive. Take it gently.

've used this wax for Bakelite, though its hard to come by now? I think it has a slight cutting compound in it already?
