I vowed to stop posting here but this has to top everything else written here! Waveguide speaker cable none the less. Am I missing something here? I thought we were talking about audio signals? Have a read and also follow the link given to read some of most outrageous c..p I have ever read!!! The sad thing is that some people believe it!

I'm old enough to remember the oxygen free copper craze in Hi-Fi, and young enough to have been impressed enough by it to only use that in my car stereo installs afterwards for about 10 years... I seem to recall an electronics mag (EA?) tested a bunch of different conductors from expensive 'Monster Cable' right the way down to welding rods... no discernible difference.
But audiophools are out there. It looks better, it has a better name, it is better marketed, and it has a bigger price. So its better. Right?
And I do recall learning about waveguides in the radar phase of my training and being completely shocked at the idea of transmission in a tube - which in hindsight, for a guy who was into radio from a young age, is ridiculous. I'm sure my old Air Force instructors would be shocked to learn the term has been hijacked for the purposes of Hi-Fi doof-doof.

Sold for $1920. Lots of TV valves in that lot. I must have $5000 on my shelves at that rate. David

I see those valves just got relisted - apparently the near-on $2k winner got cold feet...
I wonder how many of the 'new' valves he talks about are just old ones in a box?

That 'Trade Me' buyer of the valves also put a winning bid on a Weller soldering station. The buyer defaulted on payment on that and got bad feedback as a result (his feedback was a -2, after receiving bad feedback from a number of trades). I see he's no longer a 'Trade Me' member under that old 'name'. Bummer for the seller of the items.

That's what I was thinking, TV valves are notorious for this. The majority of valves in that auction are pretty common, TV, Radio, war-surplus types. The storage conditions don't look to have been ideal either. I was surprised people were prepared to bid so high without evidence the "valuable" audio valves were really new. You'd be pretty disappointed to find that what you were hoping was a new 6SN7 was actually a cooked-up 6X5 or had lost its vacuum....

At least the vendor is being realistic regarding his expectations of the worth of these.

In the original auction, I also wondered about the comment from the person in Auckland who said that 6SN7GTBs would fetch $400 on eBay. This might have fed the bidding frenzy. When I checked just now you could get one for about $82 plus postage.

I see there is a GZ34 up for grabs for $185.00. Described as " Fabulous in valve amplifiers for hi-fi or guitar/bass including Fender, Marshall, Gibson, Peavey, Mesa and many others." Who knew?
