Apologies for the grainy pics but I'm trying to identify this radio from early 1930's (I guess). Not even sure if it's NZ made as, from the pic, I can't see an ARTS&P sticker on the back but I do understand there was a NZ manufacturer by that name, of which little is known, judging by my research on NZVRS info. Note that the set is not in my possession so can't get a good look at it. A clue is "Champion" on the bottom front centre but is this the maker or model? Another clue is the left escutcheon window has "Volume" written on it in distinct characters I'm sure I've seen somewhere before. The owner tells me he retrieved it from a skip bin some time ago and he's too scared to plug it in (good thinking of course!)... that's all we know. Any ideas welcome. Cheers Attachments:

I agree with John - the chassis looks identical to the one in the El Rey. I checked Floyd Paul's book of California radio production and it shows both the Champion Radio Mfg Corp. Ltd and El Rey identified as 'midget companies' working from the Gilfillan factory between 1929 and 1931 - so it's likely the chassis' are identical and made by a company (but which?) in the Gilfillan factory and under the Gilfillan RCA licence for use in various brands.
The cabinet looks like one I've seen before as well - possibly locally sourced?
Cheers, Steve
