What constitutes a bad day for you, radio-wise? I feel a little sick right now...

That would be a 'bummer' moment for sure - but I know you have the skills to replicate it to an 'as new' standard

I went into my valve stocks the other day and in the process of extracting the one I wanted, I dropped a NOS 6A7, in its box. Of course it smashed into a million pieces.

A long time ago I was repairing a lovely green clipper for a mate, I was gently & I mean gently rocking the EL41 out of its very tight shrouded socket &, you guessed it…. pfffff, the heater didn’t glow any more & the getter turned from lovely dark silver to white. I think some of my hair did the same. Pity the Chinese aren’t producing EL41’s….. or 6M5’s for that matter.

Hi Steve
I have the Columbus version of the spiral dial, the cabinet is riddled with borer (treated) If your interested. Dial is perfect (but not a Pacific)
Some years ago I had just finished a recap and rewrite of a Philips set and was installing the chassis back into the cabinet when I broke the thin metal dial drive cable to the dial assembly. What a nightmare to fix !!!!

And I thought the electric jug packing up at midnight was bad news. Sympathy Steve.

Harvey Norman can print on glass. The second option is to find someone with a UV flatbed printer and spit out a new one. (UV printer is on the wish list...)
That was a really neat dial.
My worst was fully rebuilding a Collins R390a and finding the 16KC wide mechanical filter with an open secondary. A good months work of work on hold while a new module from the states drifted over... It was easier to re cap and fix the new IF strip module than to swap over the filters.

That's certainly going to ruin your day. Most screenprinters can print on glass and use long-lasting inks. I know one in Auckland and his work is excellent - if you need the name just PM me.
I picked up a Sanyo 2-in-1 unit that had glass over the tuning dial, and the screenprinting on the inside was flaking off. I was able to find the Sanyo logo online, and recreate the artwork in reverse and my screenprinter did the rest. The finished product looked just like it had rolled off the production line.
