Hi everyone, I have discovered amongst my collection a Philips radio for which the schematic seems elusive. It is a mantel radio using gold side contact valves but its chief claim to fame is that it is vibrator powered, complete with alligator clips ,hefty cable and N.Z. stations on the dial. The vibrator unit bears the model number 5. Would anyone have the circuit for this set? Seemingly Radio museum does not list it nor does it appear in the N.Z. Radio Project nor in the NZVRS circuit library. If anyone has any info I'd be grateful to hear from you. One of the valves is a KL4. I will post the rest of the valve lineup over the next few days. Cheers, Trombone

Hi everyone,
This oddball vibrator fed Philips set is now going and it goes well. The circuit is almost identical to the earlier Philips 518V but a much more modern cabinet and a (predictably complex) slide rule dial.
I was interested to find a replacement Beacon vibrator had been fitted by an earlier repairer. Repairing a 1937 Philips car radio a while back I found I had to replace the original vibrator transformer there also , again with a Beacon one.Is this a thing?
So , yes ,this set is going , thanks to a faux " synchronous" solid state vibrator built by one of our ChCh VRS members.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Hi Trombone
You may already know this, It is vitally important that the buffer capacitor(s) are checked (preferably replaced) as if they go low in value or open circuit massive peak voltages can (and probably will) destroy the transformer.
