I have a recently-acquired Antone Cadet, the forerunner to the Bell Colt. I have a circuit from Steve’s very useful website. This one, however, has a 6AR7GT in it, which is not shown in the circuit. This rather unusual valve was apparently only made in Australia, and has a lead coating. Unfortunately this one has the glass envelope broken above the metal coating.
Does anyone have experience of this model? Was there a version which included this valve, and if so is the circuit different to Steve’s? Finally, and long shot, perhaps, does anyone have a 6AR7GT they could part with? Thanks all, Lawrence

Hi Lawrence
The EBF32 is a direct equivalent to the 6AR7GT, but they might be just as hard to come by. Sorry, I don't have either in stock. However, I have used a 6B8(G)(or GT) in its place with good results. Note that the 6A8 will need several connection changes to the octal socket though. The 6AR7GT is a high gain valve, where the 6B8 would probably be best described as a medium gain valve.

I will need to rewire the octal base a bit first. I have now seen two conflicting references to the 6AR7GT: one says the metal shield is lead, the other says zinc. Given its weight, zinc seems more probable. Cheers, L.

Good morning Lawrence
Yes, you're right about the need to make socket wiring changes to fit the EBF32. I hadn't compared them side by side when I wrote yesterdays message. As it happens, the 6B8 uses the same socket connections as the EBF32, so a 6B8 could probably be used as a 'plan B'.

Not sure I have a 6B8, so fingers crossed the EBF32 does the job. L
