Can anybody please identify this radio from my collection? Valves are 57 58 57 2A5 80. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have no answers - but it looks familiar. My first thought was Viking, but only, I think, because of the big chunky tuning gang The grille is similar to this Ultimate: www.vintageradio.co.nz/model/ultimate/524The chassis looks for all the world like a home made one. It could be a kitset or made from a magazine? The valve shield looks Australian - Emmco or Lekmek or similar? Someone better versed in over-the-ditch parts will probably be able to identify it. A lot of Australian gear was available here in the early 30's. Cheers, Steve

Thanks Steve. The chassis layout including the tuning gang and valve line up are very similar to the 1933 Viking. But, is it a Viking or some other brand?

I have compared this radio with my 1933 Viking and find they have a lot more in common than just the tuning gang. The tuning gang is identical in both sets, the power transformer is the same, the valve line up is the same although the Viking has a 47 and the Unknown has a 2A5 so really the same. Some of the valve shields are the same and, although the chassis' are different in size and layout, both are of the same construction and green paint. So could the Unknown radio be one of the first Vikings manufactured before they had named dial escutcheons?
