I purchased this off a radio collector, who had purchased off another collector well over 20 years earlier. I thought I had paid a good price for it, though when I finally got round to looking at it, I found that the earlier restoration of the chassis was done very badly, components were "tacked" onto lugs and the replacement power transformer wiring was not insulated very well, just a load of bad soldering and mistakes, the radio did not work. After rebuilding the chassis and getting the radio going, I discovered I had very low audio output and finally figured out that the phase of the first IF winding was reversed, after fixing that, heaps of gain and the AGC worked well. Also there were horrible brush strokes on the cabinet, I decided to just sand them back and re-spray the cabinet, it came up well. The original grill cloth was rotten, luckily I had a small piece of reproduction cloth , that just fitted. The top "Shutter", was rusted, so needed to be fixed, amazingly the other shutters were fine, I ordered a replacement transfer kit from Radiodaze and waited months for that to arrive. I sanded back the top dial shutter, sprayed it satin black and slid the new transfers on , after watching an instructional YouTube video, I sprayed a clear coat on afterwards. The numbering on the top dial are a clean white, whilst the other shutters are a dirty white from years of patina, however it still looks better than rust.

Shutter Dial I forgot to mention that the original factory installed tone control rotary switch was faulty from the factory. The tone control would have never worked properly. I managed to get a replacement off ebay, and waited months for that too

Good things take time - and that does look good.
