Great to see that you've fitted a bridge rectifier in the place of that (horrible) selenium rectifier. Did you check that filter block for leakage & capacitance? They have a really nasty habit of going leaky & burning out power transformers.

yes, separate filter caps installed under the chassis. BTW, the replacement speaker is a $9 jaycar and it works really nicely.

That's great to hear! I do not trust those filter blocks in any way.
I use the Jaycar 5" speakers frequently, and never had a problem with how they sound. However, due to the large ceramic magnet on them (and the shape of the 'basket') their speakers won't fit Philips 'Philette' radios (and others) without serious modification, as the speaker sits too far forward on the chassis.

yes, no problem steve. I tried to use a drawing software, but got frustrated and resorted to pen and ruler
