Since I'm looking for knobs for one of these, I thought I should write up a basic post on them. The early dial examples have a November 33 date on them - the later ones are mid-1934 - so there were at least 2 runs of dials. There were also at least two cabinet styles - both nearly identical. My 5A has plain veneer, while the 6A has some darker details. The serial numbers are only 4 digit, so are not date coded. 1934 Stella model 5A - 5 valve broadcast band Stella model 6A - 6 valve broadcast band The later dial assembly. The earlier one has a slightly more complex arrangement. These sets were probably the first in New Zealand to have a calibrated dial, with stations marked with stars, allowing users to find their station without having to recall either its frequency, or the position on a 0-100 scale. Arthur Williams from Invercargill wrote an article on the 6A in the NZVRS Bulletin volume 10 issue 3. If anyone else has one, I would love to compare notes and serial numbers. My 6A is either 1013 or 1018 (could well be the 13th or 18th set off the production line, given the 4 digit serials - or it could be that I just haven't seen a three digit one yet), and my 5A is 1203. Cheers, Steve
