After a pause for moving house, I have come back to that Courtenay model 27 (1950 version). The radio is working but I have a problem with the cabinet. The loudspeaker cloth is all over the front and has perished in one place (see photo). I want to replace the cloth but it is firmly trapped by the Bakelite dial escutcheon. I’m not sure if the escutcheon is a push fit or has been glued in, and obviously I don’t want to break it. Has anyone worked on this model and had the same problem? What’s the answer? Suggestions welcome! Thanks, Lawrence

I've been working on a Columbus model 75 with a similar shaped escutcheon, On that model it is a wooden one. I used a multitool and ran it around on the inside between the escutcheon and the timber surround to cut the nails.....
I would put try some acetone around the edges to un glue it first.

A couple of Columbus 90's I have here have Bakelite escutcheons similar to your '27'. On mine, there are a 4 visible panel pins around the inside face of the Bakelite. Two at the top & two at the bottom. However, the panel pins look & feel like their heads have been cut off, as the visible bits appear to be quite sharp. Stanley's suggestion of using a multitool is a great one, or use a hacksaw blade.
