It is with a touch of sadness I note the passing of The Listener into the annals of history today at the ripe old age of 80.
What started as a state-owned journal of radio broadcasting, created to replace the privately owned 'Radio Record', became the magazine we all grew up with - It, like NZ broadcasting (fortunately), is no longer in government hands, but today it became another victim of these troubled times - no longer able to survive as its advertisers pulled out, most likely simply trying to protect their own companies from the same fate.
RIP Listener.

After this is all over, maybe someone might pick the publication up again?

A couple of years ago I inherited a Courier RCC radiogram. Inside was a pristine copy of the Listener from July 1955, presumably dating from first purchase of the radiogram. A precious relic.
