Hi guys & guyesses I've recently had to try to fix two potentiometers which were extremely stiff to turn. After taking courage in both hands I carefully disassembled it. I started by gently prising the little tabs which hold the carbon track assembly & switch to the bush & rod section. I remembered a tip - from John Moyle no less - before prising up each tag, heat it with the soldering iron to take some of the stress out of the metal. It works too! One of the pots was so tight I had to gently place the bush section in a vice & tap the rod out. I did this, then emery papered the rod & bush & it remained as tight as ever. I managed to find a drill bit which was only slightly larger than the bush & carefully drilled it out. The rod fitted perfectly & I was able to re-assemble the pot without any problems. As I say I've treated two pots in this way - both successfully. & in case you're wondering, they were (comparitively) low value pots with switch - sadly no longer manufactured.
Why not give it a try? Best... John:)
