This year marks 100 years since the beginning of radio broadcasting in New Zealand. To recognize this centenary here on the NZVRS forum, I thought it would be neat to see photos of the oldest NZ made radio in your collection. Don't worry about condition, original, restored, butchered, chassis only, just take a photo or two and maybe tell us a little about it.
The oldest NZ made set in my collection is a 1929/30 Wellmayde Ace, s/n: 18 The Ace is a three valve regen using a Philips F209, UX201 and UX226. The rectifier is a Westinghouse copper oxide type.

I had meant to reply to this a while back then got sidetracked - I have a 1930 Courtenay model 1 which is a hybrid reproduction / original. The cabinet is original, but repainted. I will refinish it some time - I've got good photos of what an original looks like, and what the Courtenay logo looks like. Someone did all the hard work building it out about 90% of the way then stopped... a friend got it and gave it to me... its on my list of things to do. Its a big list. Its not my oldest set I don't think... I suspect my Philips 2610 is maybe 12 months older - and while the Philips is cool - its not Kiwi.

Oh, Daniel - I found the original advert for your Ace. Page 3 of the April 1930 Johns catalogue. I've added the model to the site...

Thanks Steve. Its nice to see the Ace up on the site! You are lucky to have have such an early Courtenay, a real piece of history, given how big the brand was to become.
I too have an older radio than the Ace, a Grebe Synchrophase 7 from 1927. It is a beautifully made radio. But I'm much more fond of the "built-down-to-a-price" Ace.

That is a really neat set, great original condition! Thanks for sharing it. Yes, it is very rare to have paperwork for a radio, especially such a old one.

Very nice set, and fantastic to have documentation with it - if you're ok with it, do you have photos I could use to add this to the Vintage Radio Project (and possibly scans of the documentation)?
The coils look very similar to those used by Johns in their Meniwave sets - I have one on the site with a coil fitted that looks identical.
Cheers, Steve
