Can anyone shed any light on this amplifier? The cabinet, knobs, control markings and grille cloth are clearly Bell but I can't find anything about it in the NZVRS library. Circuit attached. It stands 700mm high, 380mm wide & 310mm deep. It is around 5 watts. It belongs to my son's father-in-law who gave it to me to repair. - all the usual things wrong. Now they have been put right and it goes well.

NEver seen one - I have circuits for 5V amps with a similar-ish layout in my files, but not a 3V one. Did you replace the speaker? Circuit says Rola C - but its got an M... datecode 1959? The serial number puts it at 1959 at a n educated guess based on the serials I've collected for Colts (www.vintageradio.co.nz/colt)
Cheers, Steve

I drew the circuit so the mistake is mine. I can't find any reference to there ever being an 8C speaker.

Just when you think you have seen everything from a certain manufacturer, something previously unseen turns up. It seems there were no limits to the sorts of things that Bell made.

A friend pointed me to this post. I was an apprentice at Bell from 1958 to 1962 and clearly remember this amplifier. It was made in small quantities as the cabinet was matched to what at that time, was Bell's "high end" mono radiogram. Like the Bell oscilloscope and the car radio, volumes were such that information and official circuits were not officially available.

Fantastic to have someone remember this. I have drawn the circuit in Autocad & it is now posted in the NZVRS library, with the two photos attached above, as Bell unknown model - 3V amplifier. Do you remember if there was a model number and year(s) of manufacture?
